THE Davao City Tourism Operations Office (CTOO) is expecting tourist arrivals in the city to reach around 200,000 from April to May, this year.

In an interview on Tuesday, CTOO officer-in-charge Lisette Marques said that during the same period last year, tourist arrivals had reached a total of 94,073 in April and 94,562 in May.

"We are expecting that tourist arrivals will reach around 100,000 or more for each month this year," she said.

Marques attributed the increase in tourist arrivals through the Mice (meetings, incentives, conventions, and events) events that were held around April and May.

These included the Philippine Society of Anesthesiology Mid-year Convention in April and the Philippine Pharmacists Association National Convention, Philippine Obstetrical and Gynecological Society 2014 Midyear Convention & Scientific Seminar, Philippine College of Surgeons Convention, and the Holcim Big Event this month.

Marques also said the Big Davao Fun Sale, the first city-wide sale in the Philippines, and the 2014 Davao City Summer Sports for Peace Festival are also expected to boost tourist arrivals in the city.

"Also since it is summer, it is expected that it is the peak season for tourism," she said.
