Shared facility for hot chili producers in Davao Oriental-A A +A

THE Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) 11 will be establishing three shared service facilities (SSFs) to assist in the production of hot chili in Davao Oriental, DTI 11 officer-in-charge Ma. Belenda Q. Ambi said they will be setting up the SSFs in the municipalities of Boston, Cateel, and Baganga within the year.
She said the Provincial Government of Davao Oriental will be the co-operator of the facility in Boston and Cateel while the local government unit of Baganga will be the co-operator for the SSF that will be established in the municipality.
Ambi said the co-operators will be the ones providing the location for the facility and for its maintenance.
The SSFs will incclude chili processing equipment like grinding machines, drying machines, and packaging machines.
"We will be using the Pablo fund. Around P2 million has been allocated from the fund for the SSFs," she said.
In the aftermath of Typhoon Pablo, DTI 11 has been promoting hot chili production as a livelihood program for those in the Pablo affected areas.
Currently there are eight hot chili processors and enterprises: Ayana's
Siling Kinamayo, Food Processors Association of Taytayan, M.A.M.A. Chili Trees Farmers Association, Ziah Sam Chili and Other Food Products, Edil's Dumang Products, Delia's Chili Products, Dory's Dumang Products, and Subangon Dumang Makers.
As of January 2014, the livelihood program has assisted 763 farmers. It was also able to generated 1,526 jobs, P4.53 million in domestic sales, and P2.31 million in investments.
Currently, DTI 11 is processing the Food and Drug Administration registration of the enterprises for them to be able to use the Hot Pablo trademark.
