28 hired on-the-spot in Kalayaan Job Fair

A TOTAL of 28 job applicants were hired on the spot as of 11 a.m. Thursday during the 2014 Kalayaan Job Fair spearheaded by the Department of Labor and Employment-Davao Region (Dole 11) at NCCC Mall of Davao.

In a text message by Dole 11's labor communication officer Sherwin Manual, of the total HOTS, 26 were hired by local companies while only two were hired by overseas agencies or companies.

As of 11 a.m. Thursday, Dole 11 listed a total of 877 registered job applicants, 790 of them were for local companies and 87 for overseas companies or agencies.

Of the 877 registered applicants, only 335 were qualified for further interview for local jobs while 34 for overseas opportunities.

A total of 22,181 job vacancies from 113 local and overseas companies were made available on Thursday. Of the total jobs, 5,593 vacancies were from 79 local companies and 16,588 vacancies were from 34 overseas companies.

Just like the previous job fairs, the occupations with the most vacancies are call center agents, customer service representatives, service crew, office staff, administrative clerk, carpenter, market sales person, accounting assistant, insurance salesman, and non-formal education teacher.

Dole 11 regional director Joffrey M. Suyao said they targeted at least 15 percent of the total qualified applicants will be hired.

"There are some who are not qualified and they will be referred to validators for skills trainings, livelihood, or to the Philippine Employment Service Office (Peso) desk, since they also have other employers that can be referred to them," he said.

A one-stop shop was also placed during the fair, which included agencies such as SSS, PhilHealth, Pag-Ibig, National Bureau of Investigation, Department of Foreign Affairs, National Statistics Office, Tesda, and members from the Regional Coordinating Council.
