THE local government of Sta. Cruz, in Davao del Sur is set to start the construction of its P100 million new public
market next month.
Sta. Cruz local economic enterprises manager Camila S. Infiesto said in an interview with Sun.Star Davao Friday in
Kiblawan, Davao del Sur that the new public market will rise in a four hectare peoperty in the town proper.
She said the new public market will address congestion at the old market and to accommodate the growing number of
businesses in the municipality.
"The old market now is congested due to the growth in population and industries. The buildings are also
dilapidated," Infiesto said.
Only the first two hectares will be developed first.
She said the new public market will have mall-like features.
The new market will house 285 stalls compared to some 100 stalls at the old one.
Infiesto also said there will be financial institutions like banks that will be locating in the market.
There will also be a park within the development wherein consumers or buyers can rest and relax.
Three buildings will rise within the first two hectares of the public market.
"The first building will be for dry goods, second for wet goods, and the third will house the food court," she said.
They target to finish the construction within 15 months but Infiesto said it is possible to complete it earlier than scheduled.
The ground breaking was held last month.
The remaining two hectares will be developed later.
