THE Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) in Davao Region recorded around P4 million in sales during their Diskwento Caravans for the first half of the year.
DTI documents record a total of 14,970 beneficiaries for Diskwento Caravans held in the region from March until June this year. Discounts of up to 50 percent were offered by participating distributors for prices of basic necessities, prime commodities, school supplies, NFA Rice or native kakanin, and others.
A total of P3,807,310.20 in sales were recorded for the first semester of DTI's Diskwento Caravan.
“The Diskwento Caravan is to make available to our consumers prices which are more or less discounted, and we encourage distributors to participate and give discounts to consumers,” Rachel Remitio, Consumer Welfare and Trade Regulation Divison Chief for DTI-Davao, told reporters at Friday’s Kapihan sa PIA.
Remitio added that distributors participating in the activity do not necessarily compete with their retailers, as the Diskwento Caravan is only held on certain occasions.
DTI-Davao has scheduled four more Diskwento Caravans in the next half of the year.
Remitio said one Diskwento Caravan will be held at the City Council building of Davao for the first week of October this year to highlight the celebration of the Consumer Welfare month.
She said more Diskwento Caravans will be held in Dujali, Davao del Norte in the third week of July; in Compostela, Compostela Valley on August 1; and in Lupon, Davao Oriental on August 8. (Brent Harvey S. Jimenez-AdDU Intern)
