Investment gab set Sept. 19 here-A A +A
Monday, July 28, 2014
THE first Southern Mindanao Growth Corridor Investment Forum (SMGCIF) is set on September 19, 2014 at the Marco Polo Hotel, Davao City.
The investment forum is spearheaded by the American Chamber of Commerce of the Philippines Inc. (Amcham) - Davao, European Chamber of Commerce of the Philippines Inc. (ECCP) and the Japanese Chamber of Commerce of Mindanao Inc. (JCCM).
"The investment forum aims to change the paradigm of our region (Southern Mindanao) because the focus is mostly on the agriculture industry. What we want for our region to become is not only to be [focused on] agriculture but also to [focus on] manufacturing and light industry," said Philip Dizon, Amcham-Davao president, in yesterday's edition of Kapehan sa Dabaw at SM City Davao Annex.
He said the three foreign chambers see the potentials of key southern Mindanao cities -- General Santos, Digos, Davao, Panabo, Mati and Tagum -- and the San Isidro town in Davao Oriental to become major industrial hubs in Mindanao.
"What we [also] intend to do is inform the world that here we are as your industrial investment destination," Dizon said.
One of the major focus of the investment forum will be the introduction of potential investors to local resources and partners or business matching.
Dizon said they have not yet conducted an email blast or massive distribution of invitations to potential investors who will attend but as early as now they already received an initial of 30 confirmations. They are expecting around 150 to 200 investors to attend.
The organizers said the investors are mostly coming from outside of the SMGC.
"We are communicating with the Japanese Chamber of Commerce in Manila and Cebu to...recognize Mindanao as an investment [destination]," said Keisuke Nakao, JCCM president.
For her part, ECCP executive officer Francis Claudine Granada said they will be the ones to communicate with other foreign chambers in Manila in inviting them to attend the forum. They will also be inviting some investors from Europe.
John Carlo Tria, SMGCIF event chair, said they intend the event to become an annual event in the coming years wherein not only those in Southern Mindanao will benefit but also for those in the East Asean Growth Area.
"The staging of the event is also a show of confidence on the economy of Southern Mindanao," he said.
The event is held in cooperation with Tebow Cure Hospital, Department of Trade and Industry, Board of Investments, and Davao City. Event sponsors are Anflocor, Lapanday Properties, Aboitiz Power, Nakayama Group - Nakayama Technology Corporation (NTC), and Hijo Resources Corporation.
