Businesses urged to go digital-A A +A

LOCAL businesses are encouraged to go digital in order to harness the benefits of the information communications technology (ICT) allowing them to improve their efficiency, an executive of Globe Telecom said.
"By harnessing the power of ICT and becoming much more digital, businesses can achieve more revenue growth, more market, better engagement with customers and employees, better efficiency, and the like," said Gil B. Genio, Globe Telecom chief operating officer for Business and International Markets, to some 300 delegates from nearly 200 companies throughout Mindanao during the first Mindanao Business Solutions Expo, organized by Globe Telecom, at the Marco Polo Hotel Davao Thursday.
Genio said there are a number of things that go into becoming digital, namely: mobile, social, cloud, and analytics.
He said embracing the mobile phenomenon will allow the company's employees, customers, or business partners to access information via mobile.
Genio said being digital means going social. He said Philippines has a strong presence in social media by being number one in Facebook and number nine on Twitter and companies should take advantage of this.
He said if the company does not have a major presence in social media they "are not truly digital."
Genio said being present in social media is not just about being in Facebook or Twitter, it is about how a company engages its customers, how they advertise through it, and it is about knowing about how to read Google, Twitter, and Facebook analytics, among other social media disciplines.
"The third cornerstone on being digital is all about cloud," he said, adding that nowadays many companies are putting their important files in the cloud for safe keeping.
Genio said with an internet connection, companies will be able to access their files on the fly using the mobile phones or tabs.
He said analytics, which combines all three, gives the company power to gain information about its customer, which is very important.
"In using the power of ICT gives a lot more data and information on their customers, employees, and partners," he said.
Genio said organizations who harness the benefits and power of ICT gives them a competitive edge over others.
"If you move to mobile, social, use of cloud and analytics it is powerful for in a customer retention and revenue generation perspective. Being digital is not an option, it is mandatory for today's business," he said.
