Imported garlic price drop noted

THE price of imported and hawaiian garlic continues to drop based on the price monitoring of the Philippine Statistic Authority-Bureau of Agricultural Statistics (PSA-BAS) 11 on Friday.

The price of imported garlic went down to P140 to P160 as of last week from P180 to P200 price the week before while the price of hawaiian garlic dropped to P150 from to P140 to 160.

PSA-BAS market reporter Imelda V. Abdala said the prices for the two varieties went down as a result of sufficient and stable supply in the market.

However, the price of native garlic increased to P250 to P280 as compared to the price the week before at P230 to P250. This is a P20 to P30 increase in the price of native garlic.

Abdala said native garlic usually has a higher price because it is of higher quality than the imported and hawaiian garlic.

An increase in the prices of other commodities have also been observed, the price of bangus increased to P110 to P120 from P98 to P110, ampalaya P50 to P60 from P40 to P50, habitchuelas P35 to P45 from P30 to P40, and carabao mango P60 to P70 from P50 to P65.

The prices of other commodities remain stable as of Friday. Price of well-milled rice is at P45 to P48, regular milled rice is P39 to P44, and NFA rice is from P27 to P32.

The prices of meat, poultry, and seafood products are: pork (liempo) P175 to P185, pork (lean meat) P170 to P180, beef (lean meat) P220, beef (with bones) P175 to P180, dressed chicken P115 to P120, chicken egg (medium size) P5 to P5.50, and tilapia P90 to P100.

Prices of selected fruits and vegetable products are: string beans P25 to P30, cabbage P30 to P40, tomato P35 to P40, red onion P65 to P75, white potato P65 to P75, eggplant P30 to P40, lakatan P36 to P38, latundan P25 to P28, and papaya P18 to P20.
