THE Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) 11 is targeting to establish three shared service facilites (SSFs) for the chili product processors in Davao Oriental by September or October this year.
DTI 11 officer-in-charge Ma. Belenda Q. Ambi, in an interview, with Sun.Star Davao on Tuesday, said the shared service facilities will be established in Cateel, Bagangga, and Boston.
She said their co-operators have committed to provide the buildings or location for the SSFs. The provincial government of Davao Oriental has identified locations in Boston and Cateel.
She also said aside from the provincial government, the Municipal government of Boston has also expressed its interest to provide a location for the SSF. The local government unit (LGU) of Bagangga has likewise identified a location in their area.
Ambi said each SSF will cost around P475,000 and will include a grinder, solar dryer, and a packaging machine, stainless steel equipment, and a storage facility.
The building of the SSFs will be at least 100 square meters in floor area and will have a one-way entry point and exit point as directed by the Food and Drugs Administration (FDA), which is also assisting in the layout and design of the facilities.
Ambi said they are hoping that with the facilities in place, their applications for a license to operate (LTO) from FDA will be made faster.
She said that this will also help strengthen the chili processors to be able to enter the bigger markets here and abroad.
"Also in view of the Asian Economic Community in 2015, we will be competing with other similar products. [With the facilities] this will help establish a standard among the chili products," Ambi said.
Most of the chili processors in Davao Oriental have a production plant but home-based that is not enough to meet quality standards in production.
Ambi said they have already released the documents for the bidding of the SSFs. She said they will be setting up a meeting soon with the bidders.
