PRIMING up Mindanao as the gateway to the Association of South East Asian Nation (Asean) Economic Community (AEC) will be discussed during the 23rd Mindanao Business Conference (Minbizcon) set on September 1-3 at Veranza Mall in General Santos City.
"Nag-improve nayung Luzon, nag-improve nayung Visayas I think the next logical step is a Mindanao free trade," Rey de Leon Billena, regional director of Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PCCI) and Minbizcon director, said during the press briefing yesterday at the Apo View Hotel.
With the Asean Integration in 2015, Billena said they are looking at Mindanao not only as a gateway but as a "valuable key in bolstering our country's economic framework in relation to the Asean member states."
Mindanao is also expected to play a vital role in boosting the hahal industry, as well as tourism and services such as health and beauty.
At present, a total of 648 participants have already pre-registered for this year's Minbizcon.
Billena said they are "expanding the target of participation of the delegates."
"We are not only limiting it to businessmen but we are extending to the members of the academe, the practicing professionals and government employees," Billena said.
He also added that from the 1,500 expected delegates, 1,200 will be coming from Mindanao, 10 from the other parts of the country and 200 from the six out of 10 Asean-member countries.
There are a total of eight plenary topics which will be discussed during the event. (KGL)
