Terms of reference for tourism masterplan being finalized

Monday, March 20, 2017

TERMS of reference for the Tourism Masterplan in Davao City is being finalized by the City Tourism Operations Office (CTOO) together with the Tourism Infrastructure and Enterprise Zone Authority (Tieza) for the integration of different tourism sectors in the city.

“Tourism is a very fragmented industry. We have frontliners like tour operators, hotel industry, transportation sectors, the tour guides. You also have the secondary lines of businesses which are the souvenir shops, restaurants, spas, etc. There had been no existing actions to integrate these sectors or what direction the city will take in terms of tourism,” CTOO Head Generose Tecson said.

She added the terms of reference will include the guide for responsibilities of the providers later on and what the city should do and can provide for the betterment of tourism.

Tecson also said Davao City is seen to be good meetings, incentives, conferencing, exhibitions destination compared to other cities in the Philippines and yet it does not have direct offices or individual officers to refer to interested investors. She also cited agri-tourism as one of the tourism features of the city that needs to be specified and given attention to.

With the finality of the terms of reference, the kind of agri-tourism the city targets will be specified and the responsibilities to attain such goals will be put in as well.

“There’s a huge need to do the tourism masterplan so that it can be our roadmap towards tourism improvement of our city. It’s something we all have to work on especially on the part of the private sector because they will be the one doing the businesses. If they have no one to be referred to, how will do it?” said Tecson.

The main objectives of the masterplan are to bring in together different tourism sectors so that they can work together for the betterment of tourism in the city and at the same time for the investors’ convenience to have someone designated for their specific investment concerns.

Tecson said funding for the Davao City Tourism Masterplan will be coming from Tieza.
