RICE consumption in Davao Region in 2015-2016 decreased by 10.77 percent to 94.404 kilograms (kg) from 105.798 kg in 2012 according to the recent 2015-2016 Survey on Food Demand (SFD) of the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA).
Data from PSA-Davao showed that all provinces recorded a decline in the consumption of rice with the largest being recorded at Compostela Valley where it went down by 33.57 percent to 60.542 kg from 91.135 kg. Compostela Valley was followed by Davao del Sur (24.53 percent), Davao Oriental (23.75 percent), and Davao del Norte (6.06 percent).]
"Looking at the levels by barangay classification, household living in the urban barangays of the region had higher consumption level at 119.474 kg than those in the rural barangays. However, in Davao del Norte, rural dwellers had a slightly bigger consumption at 129.856 kg than those residents in the urban barangays," PSA-Davao said in their report.
Meanwhile, PSA-Davao noted an increase of 47.43 percent in the consumption of corn to 40.679 kg from 27.593 kg.
All provinces in Davao Region, except for Davao del Norte, had an increase in the consumption of corn with the largest being Davao del Sur where consumption increased by more than 2,000 percent to 88.074 kg from 4.183 kg. This was followed by Compostela Valley (131.99 percent) and Davao Oriental (66.63 percent).
The consumption of corn in Davao del Norte went down by 18.24 percent to 10.477 kg from 12.815 kg.
