TO BE in a generation where young people are very much into Korean dramas, it is much easier to at least understand basic words and phrases when watching one’s favorite Korean drama, it is an edge to be able to communicate using two or more languages.
In Davao City, February last year, a multiple language tutorial center, Polyglot Davao was established at N. Torres St., Obrero, Davao City.
Polyglot is a combination of “poly” which means “multiple” in English and “glot” which means “language” in German.
At present, the center offers tutorials for German, French, Portuguese, Arabic, Spanish, Mandarin, Japanese, Korean, Hokkien, Italian, and Polish languages.
“Personally, I have noticed that most of our Filipino students have an interest in studying the French language. When I ask my students the reason why, basically their reason is that most of them have the intention to work in Canada. Or even because they have girlfriends or boyfriends, who are French. Among the other reasons are for self-improvement,” said Polyglot Davao Language Instructor Oussama Mehrzi.
The foreign languages are being taught by foreigner instructors but Mehrzi said they are also accepting Filipino instructors, who are educated abroad and are fluent in a specific foreign language.
“Since we have started early 2016, we have educated over 1,000 enrollees. Polyglot Davao now has tied up with different universities in Manila and even in Taiwan because we are planning to set up our students for internships abroad mainly in Taiwan,” he said.
Classes are available in 1-month, 2-month, and 3-month packages with discounts for early bird registrations.
One-month package is priced at P2,500 for regular classes and P2,200 for early birds, 2-month package is priced at P5,000 with a discount of P600 for early birds.
The 3-month package is available for P7,500 with a discounted price of P6,600 for early birds.
To confirm the rate and the class spot, a down payment of P1,000 is requested from the students.
One-on-one private tutorial classes are regularly priced at P8,500 with a discounted price of P7,000 for early birds. A small group, consisting of 2-3 people, can form their own separate special class priced at P12,500 with a discounted rate of P11,000 for early registrations.
A P2,000downpayment will be asked to reserve slots for both the one-on-one and small group language tutorials.
Aside from private tutorial classes and group class services, Polyglot Davao also offers Document Translation and Corporate Language Training services.
“I believe we are going on the right path. We only started with teaching two languages but now it has reached to ten languages. And since 2016, we have educated over 1,000 enrollees,” Mehrzi said.
