INCOME generation from licensing tourism establishments this year reached P3 million as of July.
City tourism head Generose Tecson said in an interview with SunStar Davao last Thursday, August 10, at the Star Hotel, Davao City they already reached their target for this year, five months ahead, which is at P3 million.
“The fast income generation can be attributed to our very efficient licensing team. They really are doing their rounds to ensure that every establishment will be licensed,” she said.
She also said information dissemination campaign of the collection helps a lot in achieving this development.
“Above the income that we generate, we want people to realize that they really have to get their licenses in order to be recognized by the city,” Tecson said.
Tecson said they expect to reach at least P4 million by the end of the year.
Meanwhile, tourist arrivals in Davao City for the second quarter of 2017 decreased by 3.6 percent to 473,735 from 491,407 in the same period last year.
According to the data provided by the Davao City Investment and Promotions Center (DCIPC), there is a 10.86 percent increase for the foreign tourist arrivals as there had been a recorded 34,604 tourists for the second quarter of the year compared to only 31,215 second quarter last year.
The domestic tourists figure was the one primarily causing the total decline with a recorded 5.99 percent decrease to 427,086 this year from 454,315 last year.
The decline in arrivals, Tecson said, is because of the declaration of Martial Law in Mindanao until end of this year.
