Teo: Flights to China to be launched soon

Friday, January 12, 2018

DIRECT flight from Davao to Beijing and Shanghai will be launched soon, said Tourism Secretary Wanda Teo.

In a press conference with Teo day Friday, January 12, Teo said they are currently finalizing talks with Chinese tour operators to establish direct charter flight from Davao to Beijing and Shanghai.

Teo said they are targeting to officially launch the talks after the Chinese New Year and will fly twice a week. A single flight is expected to fly 180 to 200 passengers.

This plan was originally drafted during President Rodrigo Duterte's visit to China last year.

"We are expecting more Chinese tourists with the establishment of this flight...I'm really hoping this will be pushed through," said Teo, adding the Davao-Beijing-Shanghai will be a single connecting flight.

Teo said she will focus on promoting Mindanao for her term as the other cities and tourism areas in the Philippines "can already stand on their own" in terms of tourism. She said it's time Mindanao would be given focus and more tourism-related promotion.
