Micecon 2013 gathers 40 buyers

THE first Meetings, Incentives, Conventions, and Events/Exhibititions Conference (Micecon) 2013 in Mindanao drew around 40 buyers from across the country and abroad.

Records from Davao City Investment Promotions Center (DCIPC) showed that there were buyers from Australia, India, Japan, Malaysia, Singapore, China, Russia, Taiwan, and Vietnam who bought the services of the sellers from tourism industry.

Davao City is Imex 2013 Wild Card winner

Mining company eyes bigger processing plant in S. Cotabato

KORONADAL CITY -- A Canadian company backing a gold mining project in T'boli, South Cotabato is seeking to raise around C$5 million or nearly P200 million for the expansion of its processing plant, an executive said.

Robert Butchart, chief executive officer of Cadan Resources. Corp, said that plans are up to increase the processing plant's capacity to 200-250 tons per day (TPD).

Consumers from Visayas and Mindanao can save P40 compared to Western Union’s old fees if they send an amount that ranges from P1,001 to P2,000 to anywhere in the Philippines through Western Union. Water lily provides livelihood for women

A GROUP of women in a poor community in Barangay Lubogan, Toril in Davao City underwent last March 17-19 skills training on water lily weaving in a bid to provide them with livelihood that will give them extra income for their respective families.

The three-day training, a project of Villar Foundation in cooperation with Uswag Bubai, a non-governmental organization that helps empower the women sector, trained at least 60 participants how to weave using water lily stalks and produce personal products such as sandals, shoes, handbags and shoulder bags, and household products such as rags, place mats, and even fruit trays.

Davao chamber to embark on 3-country trade mission

Private, public partnership key to raising exports

BIR-Davao closes Bluejazz for underdeclaration of sales

THE Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) in Davao region issued on Tuesday a five-day closure order to the management of Bluejazz Beach Resort and Waterpark in the Island Garden City of Samal (Igacos) for underdeclaration of sales.

BIR regional director Lawyer Glen Geraldino said it was November of last year that his office found out that the resort management had been violating the Tax Code of the Philippines, specifically the underdeclaration by more than 30 percent of its sales.

Accommodation establishments not submitting occupancy report

A CITY official said Tuesday that it is difficult to quantify how many tourists are visiting Davao City a year, as almost half of the accommodation establishments owners are not submitting occupancy reports.

Davao City Investment Promotions Center (DCPIC) chief Jason Magnaye, in a business forum held Tuesday at DermPath at SM City Davao, said the submission rate of the hotels, inns, and pension houses in the city was pegged at 51 percent in 2012, only a little higher than 46 percent in 2011.

Damosa Land starts building houses in April

City to bid for Apec Summit

Power exec: Long brownouts due to conservation for May elections

Full-time jobs up in January

QUALITY of employment improved in January 2013 as employment growth came from the wage and salary employment and as the full-time workers grew faster than part-time jobs, according to the National Economic and Development Authority (Neda).

"Employment grew in January 2013 mainly coming from the services and industry sectors and the quality of employment significantly improved in the period," Socioeconomic Planning Secretary Arsenio M. Balisacan said.
