REIGNING 2009 1st Tour of Mindanao elite champion Lloyd Berjame led Cagayan de Oro City to team championship in the Race for Peace 2nd League Qualifying Race of Tour de Mindanao in Koronadal City, South Cotabato on Saturday.
Berjame's team clocked a total of 12 hours, 19 minutes and 42 seconds in the race that covered 100 kilometers of road ride, 20km uphill climb to Lake Sebu and 20km excursion going to the Municipality of Surallah.
Cagayan de Oro team, which pocketed a cash prize of P20,000, was also bannered by Jeoprey Saballa and Ronnie Abao.
The Davao Pobre Bikers Association (Dapoba) clocked 12:19.42 for the second spot while Team M'lang of Mayor Lito Piñol came in third with a time of 12:20.49. Dapoba and M'lang won P15,000 and P10,000, respectively.
Early favorite Inday Sara Team of Davao City registered a time of 12:25.40 for fourth place and P8,000 prize, while Midsayap finished fifth at 12:30.29 and good for P6,000.
The General Santos City Cycling Team of Maning Duterte Guebernas, Cycle Line Extreme-Caraga of Lito Patayan and Koronadal City Cycling team each received P5,000 from Radio Mindanao Network Koronadal station manager Pastor Leo Daugdaug during the awarding rites.
M'lang rider Gerald Daraydo clinched the Eagle of the Mountain title having reached Lake Sebu first.
Dapoba's Glen Yap, meanwhile, topped the individual event to pocket the P10,000 purse while runner-up Dexter Nonato had P5,000 and third-placer Kennedy Guino with P4,000.
John Albert Galapa of Midsayap and Berjame settled for P3,000 and P2,000, respectively.
Berjame led new batch of Grand Tour qualifiers who will vie for the 2nd Race for Peace Tour de Mindanao title in September. He will be joined by Joeffrey Saballa, Jayrald Doraydo, Milan Tugahan, Algene Sanches, Marcial Catanggue, Ronnie Abao, Englebert Golez, John Marianp Lomboy and Mark Kevin Llorica.
Early qualifers were Ruel Casaljay, Nonato, Guinoo, Ronnie Urdaneta, Joel Mambatak, Yap ,Hilario Ladra, Marvin aleonar, Marcial Catanggue, Junald Guebernas, Danny Tapao, Gerry Castillon, Leonilo Cabaje and Franklin Ponce.
