Catalunan, Montserrat win titles

THE Catalunan Grande A and Montserrat Camp School of Davao (MCSD) topped their respective categories at the close of the Mayor Rody and Inday Sara 73rd Araw ng Dabaw/Araw ng Tugbok Sportsfest Football Tournament at the Mintal Elementary School grounds recently.

The Catalunan Grande A players, who were entered in the 12-under event, received medals along with runner-up Holy Chold School of Davao, third-placer Catalunan Grande B, fourth-placer University of the Philippines (UP) Tigers A and fifth-placer UP Tigers B.

In the 10-under, MCSD bested Holy Child, Catalunan Grande and MCSD-B teams that wounded up in the next three spots.

Holy Child ruled the elementary girls division over Catalunan Grande in the meet co-presented by Mayor Rodrigo and Vice Mayor Inday Sara Duterte.

Mindat sports committee chair Benedict Adan, UP Tigers manager Phil Todd, Dutch International player Stephen Ojo, and Tambayan Foundation board member Dr. Fred Medina made the ceremonial kick during the brief opening ceremonies.

Ojo, during his inspirational speech, encouraged the kids to enjoy the game, develop their skills, and stay away from vices.

DFA secretary Erwin Protacio, in a press statement, said Ojo was amazed to see the enthusiasm of participants. The latter also committed to hold clinics here in the future.

The football tournament was jointly organized by the Sports Development Division of the City Mayor's Office, Barangay Mintal, Davao Football Association and UP Mindanao.
