DAVAO City is one of the prized locations of the country's largest mall operator, SM Prime Holdings, as manifested by their aggressive take on the city's strong economic performance by opening another mall in the city.
This year, SM Prime Holdings will embark on its newest venture in the city, the start of the construction of SM Lanang at the former Lanang Golf and Country Club.

The group was able to obtain 10 hectares out of the 40 hectare golf course, which is owned by the Dakudao family.
"It will be opened and operational by 2011. It is included in our list of five malls to be opened each year," Glenn D. Ang, vice president for operations of SM Supermalls, told Sun.Star Davao in an interview Thursday.
Ang was in town for the launch of the Global Pinoy Center at SM City Davao.
For 2011, two of the five malls that the SM Group opens each year will be in Mindanao: SM Lanang in Davao City and SM City General Santos in General Santos City.
"For Lanang, it will be a combination of the department store, a hypermarket, and retail shops," Ang said citing that it will be similar to the structure of SM City Davao.
At present, SM Prime Holding is operating one mall in Southern Mindanao, SM City Davao along Quimpo Boulevard in the southern part of Davao City, which opened in November 2001 and has a gross floor area of 75,440 square meters.
Once completed, SM Lanang will be the fifth shopping center along J.P. Laurel Avenue sharing this dense traffic thoroughfare with Gaisano Mall of Davao, Victoria Plaza, the Ayala-Floirendo owned Abreeza, and Robinsons Cybergate. (CPM)
