Davao to host 2 national tourneys

DAVAO City will host two national chess events in May as set by the National Chess Federation of the Philippines (NCFP), the governing body of chess in the country.

In an e-mailed calendar of events, NCFP bared that the National Age-Group Chess Championships set on May 15 to 19 and National Juniors Chess Championships slated May 20 to 24 will be held here.

NFCP's 2010 calendar will kick off with the Prospero Pichay Cup on Feb. 13 while the Battle of Grandmasters is set on March 15 to 22 in Dapitan City, Zambales.

Three events will be held In April: Palawan Open (Puerto Princesa, Palawan), National Inter-Province Chess Team Championships on April 11 to 15 (Kalibo, Aklan) and Asian Continental/Individual Championships on April 20 to 30 (Subic, Olongapo City).

Other awaited competitions are the 11th Asean Age-Group and Asian Battle of Grandmasters set in Subic and Manila, respectively, in June.

The National Inter-Cities and Municipalities Chess Team Championships on July 7-11 in Mandaluyong City, Second Philippine Open on Sept. 24-30 in Quezon City, Sixth Prospero Pichay Jr. International Open on Oct. 1-8 in Quezon City and National Inter-Chess Club Team on Dec. 4 and 5 in Quezon City complete the NCFP roster of tournaments this year.
