Davao tankers dominate anew

MATI, Davao Oriental -- Lorelie Lora sparkled with four more gold medals and Dara Clariza Evangelista got her share of three golds as Davao City dominated the second day of the 2010 Davao Region Athletic Association (Davraa) Meet swimming competition.

The event was held at Mati Centennial Sports Complex, in this city.

Lora turned out to be the biggest surprise at the Olympic-sized pool by sweeping the secondary girls 200-meter freestyle, 100m backstroke and 200m individual medley (IM) events on top of helping the city's 4x100m medley relay team bag the gold. She clinched one gold on the first day.

Lora, a mainstay of Holy Cross of Davao College (HCDC), upset be-medaled Le'an Cantil of Panabo City in 200m freestyle by clocking two minutes and 30.57 seconds over the latter’s 2:42.43. Ethel Mariz Pobre of Davao City settled for the bronze with 3:00.07.

Evangelista, an elementary graduating student at Davao Wisdom Academy, lived up to expectations by ruling the elementary girls 50m backstroke and 200 IM. She also took part of the city’s golden finish in 4x100 medley relay event on the heels of bagging the 50m backstroke on the first day.

Davao City garnered a total of seven golds, seven silvers and three bronze medals to pace the secondary girls division while highly-touted Panabo City was limited with only two silvers and one bronze on the second day on the heels of copping two golds in the opener.

The elementary girls tankers stretched their lead by hauling a total of 10 golds and seven silvers for Davao City while second-placer Compostela Valley was far behind with a 0-2-5 medal count.

In secondary boys, Davao City recovered from a slow start with six golds, four silvers and two bronze medals at the end of Day 2 while early leader Compostela Valley dropped to second with a total of four golds, seven silvers and two bronze medals. The Island Garden City of Samal came in third with a gold and four bronzes.

Davao City's elementary boys team stamped its rivals with a commanding haul of eight golds, two silvers and four bronze medals. Davao Oriental was in far second with a gold, two silvers and three bronze medals.

Miguel Benedict Samong (elementary boys 400m freestyle, 200m IM), Zoe Marie Hilario (elementary girls 400m freestyle), Jean Paul Abando (secondary boys 100m backstroke), Brian Panganiban (secondary boys 200m IM), Sam Daniel Trinidad (secondary boys 200m breastroke) and Michaela Therese Isaguirre (secondary girls 200m breastroke) also annexed golds for Davao City.
