TWO Davao City teams, Edge Davao and Mulatto Pilipinas, finished first and third, respectively, in the just-concluded 2nd RDR Cup Adventure Race '09.
Edge Davao, bannered by veteran adventure racer Christopher Eyao, cyclist Marcial Catanggue and Judelyn Miranda arrived at the finish line barely 20 minutes ahead of triathlete Jemarvin Cabilan-led Team Bukidnon that grabbed the runner-up honors.

The Team Mulatto Pilipinas of Paulo Dino Ouano, Marjun Balaite and Cherryl Araneta, meanwhile, came 34 minutes after Edge Davao reached the finish line of the race presented by Davao del Norte Gov. Rodolfo del Rosario.
Placing fourth was the Bart Demafeliz-led Team Asata while Kagrupo of Digos City placed fifth, Team Mulatto Davao sixth, Team Iligan Pride seventh, Team Toril Boys eighth and Asuncion B ninth.
Team Mulatto Pilinas, whose support crew was Dr. Dennis Ararao, endured mechanical and health problems during the two-day grueling race.
Mulatto Pilipinas captain said they first reached checkpoint (CP) 1 at the Vanishing Island of Samal and kept the lead up to CP 5 that was highlighted by a banana eating contest in the Municipality of Sto. Tomas.
"CP 6 required us to bike up the hill of Municipality of Talaingod but shortly after we flagged off, I succumbed to an upset stomach. I was fortunate that a resident in the area allowed me to use their toilet," Ouano said in an e-mail to this writer.
Ouano's upset stomach cost his team the lead and gave other teams the opportunity to close the gap and grab the lead. (MLSA)
