Doña Carmen battles Ateneo in JVR chess

UNDEFEATED Doña Carmen Denia National High School (DCDNHS) aims to tighten its High School boys division lead when the 1st JVR Inter-School Chess Team Championships resumes Saturday at the Emcor conference room.

Chief arbiter National (NM) Prospero "Bebot" Cruz on Friday said DCDNHS players Austin Jacob Literatus and John Ray Batucan will test the mettle of Ateneo de Davao University's Gyasi Amper and Alexis Diagbel in Round 5.

The Literatus-Batucan tandem, however, remains the heavy favorite over the Ateneans who placed sixth with 3.5 points. DCDNHS led with perfect eight points in the current team standing.

In other matches, University of Mindanao (6) battles St. Peter College of Toril (3), Our Lady of Fatima (5) clashes with against Holy Cross of Davao College (4), Jose Maria College (JMC) collides with Holy Cross of College of Sasa (HCCS) and Cabantian National High School (4.5) takes on Holy Cross of Agdao (HCA).

In the girls side, solo leader Davao Central College (DCC) duo of Yna Yngayo and Ma. Theresa Tanudtanud face the Olfa pair of Mercy Bautista and Meg Penoria.

SPCT is pitted against HCCS, JMC against HCDC, DCDNHS opposite Addu and CNHS against HCA.

College men's co-leaders HCDC and JMC try to stretch their lead as they go up against Davao Doctors College and HCDC, respectively. Their women counterparts also face similar opponents.

The chessfest, presented by Emcor in cooperation with HCDC, also features the elementary division. (MLSA)
