Ateneo de Davao University's Veron Bonleon led the charge for the Henry Asilum-coached Durians with 20 points.

Asilum, who is coaching a city team in the Davraa for the first time, said: "I hope we will win the gold medal here. I also look forward for this team to make it to the Palaro's best four or perhaps win the championship."

He said the city team is a crack selection of six players from Ateneo, two from the University of the Immaculate Conception, two from Precious International School of Davao and two from Holy Child School of Davao.

"Should we win the Davraa title, we really need to maximize two weeks left before the Palaro in Tarlac. We will have to undergo two-hour rigid training everyday to be at par with the best of other regions," Asilum said.

Taekwondo, sipa, baseball, badminton and other basketball games were ongoing in separate venues here as of Monday.

In Bansalan, Davao City seized nine out of 11 golds at stake. The city ruled the boys and girls elementary and secondary volleyball, elementary and secondary football, girls secondary archery, boys secondary and girls table tennis.

It finished runner-up in the boys elementary table tennis and third in girls secondary table tennis. (MLSA)
