THE global economic slowdown is not causing a slump in the IT industry. Instead, it is viewed as the "planting season" for new technology to surface.
This is the general perception of the leaders of the Computer Manufacturers, Distributors, and Dealers Association of the Philippines (Comddap) who opened the Davao leg of their three-day exhibit at the Apo View Hotel on Thursday.

"This is the planting season for IT. In times like these, we look at it as an opportunity for innovations to come out," Salvador "Bing" Lastrilla, Comddap director, told reporters in a press conference.
Now on its 7th year in Davao City, Comddap remains to be the biggest IT expo in the city and one of the most successful.
"Our dealers have expressed that for the next two weeks after the expo, they experience an increase in sales on their IT products," Lastrilla said.
If the expos of Comddap used to be a venue for introducing technology to Dabawenyos, it has now shifted into becoming a selling exhibit wherein exhibitors offer slashed prices on their products that are put on display.
Available at Comddap this year are software, digital cameras, laptops, cell phones, and desktop computers.
The expo is attended by about 47 exhibitors, showcasing the latest technology and IT solutions for personal and businesses.
Aside from the exhibit, seminars conducted by Adobe are also conducted at the event venue.
