'Gipabugdong Pundo?' in Isyu Mindanao
-A A +AFriday, March 22, 2013
COMPOSTELA Valley is one of the many provinces covered by the Department of Social Welfare and Development's "Kapit-Bisig Laban sa Kahirapan-Comprehensive Integrated Delivery of Social Service (Kalahi-Cidss)" project. The community-driven development program involved the construction of bunkhouses for the residents left homeless by the destructive typhoon Pablo.
But recently, Kalahi-Cidss project became the talk of the town after the Philippine Daily Inquirer exposed its alleged irregularities.
Tomorrow, award-winning host John Paul Seniel uncovers not only the anomalies – salary overpayment among workers and the sub-standard materials used for the bunkhouse construction, but the moves to cover-up the supposed illegal transactions as well.
Also on feature is the issue on the lack of birthing homes especially in far-flung and isolated barangays in General Santos City.
Despite the fast growth and development in the area, delivery of maternal and child health care services is still inadequate, which usually causes death among women.
General Santos City is only one of the many places that experiences high maternal mortality rate, way below the Millennium Development Goals target of 52 per 100,000 live births by 2015.
Catch these stories in Isyu Mindanao this Saturday morning, 7:40-8:40 a.m. on GMA Network's regional stations in Davao, Cagayan de Oro, and General Santos. (PR)
