That's My Tomboy: Beauty pageant for lesbians-A A +A
Friday, October 11, 2013
LET'S admit it. We Filipinos love to watch beauty pageants featuring gorgeous ladies, cute little girls and even attractive gays.
But a beauty contest for lesbians? I have yet to witness one.
Thus, Kapamilya Network's It's Showtime piqued my interest when it launched last Monday a segment called "That's My Tomboy."
As the show's host, Vice Ganda, put it, "It's time for the talents and uniqueness [of the lesbian community] to be recognized."
He added that there are a lot of beauty and talent contests for gays, but nothing of sort has been organized for lesbians.
In its pilot episode, Charisse Pempengco, who has been described as the most famous lesbian in the country since she "came out" and revealed her true self, opened the segment to showcase her vocal prowess.
Two contestants were featured in the pilot segment. I must say that the two contestants, Rejoice and Kim Claudine, are both "handsome." That's why I really can't blame the audience when they went wild as the two emerged on stage.
I definitely like the way the two contestants carried their individuality especially when they said that they never forget the fact that they're still ladies. Rejoice even told the hosts, the judges and the crowd that she still considers having her own children someday. And yes, they had boyfriends before. Well, I'm pretty sure both of them were gorgeous when they were still "dalagas."
Both were also very talented as Rejoice performed a Tahitian dance while Kim Claudine rendered a song number. Fortunately, both were declared winners by guest judges Rene Salud, Ms. Supranational 2013 Mutya Datul and resident judge Jhong Hilario.
Aside from winning a cash prize of P20,000 each, Rejoice and Kim also have the chance to compete in the weekly finals this Saturday.
By the way, the moment I opened my FB account while watching the show, the That's My Tomboy segment was a hot trending topic on Twitter. A number of my guy friends even posted "Mas guapo pa sila sa akin, ah!" with the hashtags #thatsmytomboy and #insecureako.
I just hope that this unique segment will be sustained by the Kapamilya network in order to discover more talented individuals like Rejoice and Kim Claudine.
