Tujan: A Big Fat Greek Wedding-A A +A
Tuesday, October 15, 2013
IT WAS one of those days when all I do is sit around and enjoy the Greek ambience, rarely done, when most of the time I see myself holding the microphone, at the mercy of the wedding coordinators cue.
But for the first time after so many years, I marvel at the idea that I did not host the wedding but as a guest, I get to quench my thirst for immobility, thanks to my friends, Mr. and Mrs. Reynald and Gicelle Macabenta.
Sometimes you never know how the smallest connections will lead to big things, after Gicelle was introduced to Reynald through her cousin Rey, at the local ice cream shop and with just casual exchange of small talks who would have thought they would claim the day Sept. 14, as their wedding date to the altar.
On their wedding day it was like the whole world was celebrating their marriage. Not because they invited a lot of people, but because everyone shouted their love from the roof tops!
There were stories, hugs, kisses, Greek pillars, guest looking like a Grecian goddess and nods to Greek tradition. Every time you thought that they had reached the top of the celebration something else would come along that would bring the joy higher!
We were stopped in our tracks when Reynald included his prized remote controlled car in the ceremony to bring the rings down the aisle.
And since today's world revolves around the internet, they go paperless with the invitations and created a wedding site (www.reymacgecilewedding.com) with the full details of the venue, entourage, registry and more. Let's just say that this couple knows how to throw a party and deserved every bit of it!
They hired the expertise of wedding coordinator Juvy Roilo who alleviates the stress and work involved in planning of their wedding. Noel Tanza of Golden Touch, Davao’s finest decorator, who implements the suitable decoration theme, and understood the Grecian style, incorporating vintage gold, few statues, miniatures of course and draping sheer materials.
Guest was overwhelmed by musician Jeremy Sarmiento who sparked the area with his own interpretation of the best weddings songs that allowed guest up on their feet.
Val Adonis San Diego, of Simply Gray Studio who also has the best equipment along with his extensive experience produced the perfect wedding cinematography and Maui Recla, Light Matters Studio for the couple's pictures. My good friend wedding enthusiast Don Gonzales hosted the event.
I was floored by Beverly Sanz of Cakes 2 Create, who magically transformed a Grecian-inspired wedding cake with the couple’s wedding vows translated in Greek; a work of art to behold that captured the curiosity of the guest invited at the Pavilion of Waterfront Hotel.
It was indeed a wedding to remember perhaps, it was one of those wedding events that I can truly say, the mood , ambience, the dresses are synonymous with the sort of beauty and elegance that we often refer to when we discuss a different time or different era.
