THERE'S already a bunch of beauty queens who eventually joined the entertainment industry. However, there are only few actresses who have become beauty queens.

One of the local showbiz industry’s stars who make it big in an international beauty tilt was Megan Lynn Young who was crowned Miss World 2013. With her grabbing one of the most coveted crowns in beauty pageants, a number of Filipinos are now eyeing who could be the next star who would bring home another crown.

I was able to meet Janine last March when she visited here to promote her show Villa Quintana. Janine is definitely someone who can be groomed as the country’s next beauty queen. Apart from her height and beauty, she also has the wit and intelligence, which are very important in any beauty competitions.

So, one member of the press asked her if she has plans of joining Bb. Pilipinas or any other beauty contests in the country. After all, she still meets the age requirement. Maximum age limit for beauty pageants is 26 years old.

“Sige, ihabol natin ‘yan! Actually, si Mama (Lotlot) din ay tinatanong ako,” she replied laughing.

Having interviewed the 24-year-old daughter of Ramon Christopher “Monching” Gutierrez and Lotlot de Leon, I could say that Janine Gutierrez has the towering height and brains to be a potential beauty queen.

On acting

As someone who comes from showbiz royalties, with Pilita Corrales and Eddie Gutierrez as her paternal grandparents and Nora Aunor and Christopher de Leon from her maternal side, Janine feels pressured about having the acting prowess of these artists.

“Kailangang sariling sikap din talaga but it helps that you can always ask advice from your parents or grandparents. But in the end, ikaw pa rin talaga ang magde-determine kung ano batalaga,” she said.

In the Kapuso television series Villa Quintana, Janine said her acting skills are put to test especially that she plays the lead role.

In Villa Quintana, which piloted last November 4, 2013, Janine plays Lynette Samonte opposite Elmo Magalona who plays Isagani.

Villa Quintana is based on the 1995 Filipino drama series of the same title which starred Donna Cruz and Kempee de Leon.

“Talagang nagpapasalamat po ako na bahagi po ako ng Villa Quintana. Gusto ko po talaga ‘yong kwento and I really love the show. I’m so grateful,” she
said.

Janie shared that aside from enjoying her stint in Villa Quintana, she also dreams of playing the role of a mermaid.

“Pambata talaga ang sagot, no Favourite ko po talaga si Little Mermaid, eh,” she said.

She likewise revealed that she wants to be part of an action flick, too, and wants Elmo, Sid Lucero, or Alden Richards as her leading man.
