THEY may be the underdog if we talk about surveys, but it didn't stop them from improving further. It has even pushed them in conceptualizing programs that will surely be a hit to their loyal listeners.

This is how DXGM Super Radyo Davao, 1125 kHz on the radio dial, leads with the challenges. Super Radyo is the AM radio station of GMA here in Davao City.

In the recent survey conducted by AC Nielsen, Super Radyo Davao finally earned the elusive number one spot after years of waiting.

Indeed, it is a sweet victory for them!

On the fourth quarter of 2013, Super Radyo tops the survey that was held last November 8-14, 2013.

And again, they got the number one spot during the 1st quarter of 2014 survey held last March 1-7 this year.

"Sa 4th quarter of 2013 anaa sa 38.90 percent audience share na among nakuha, then sa 1st quarter of 2014, nakuha sab namoang 45.18 percent audience share," shared Arnie C. Delfin, the station manager during the interview with her at Zabs Buffet Restaurant, Roxas Avenue this city.

"First time nga nag No.1. Seven years nako sa GMA Super Radyo since 1996, 17 years naman Super Radyo. Pagsulod nako number 5 nahimong number 9 nahimong number 10. Pag-abot ni Mam Arnie number 5, then number 3, 2 hangtud number 1," radio anchor," Jun O. Digamon added.

Delfin bared that with their comprehensive radio programming, armed as well with issue-oriented and public service-oriented radio personalities they copped the distinction.

"Ginawa naming yung over hauling sa programming. We strengthen the public affairs program, we utilize sa mga major areas na part sa among mga projects."

Part of their plans as well is to get additional manpower that can draw more listeners.

"Binago lahat ng programming, the content. Nagdagdag ng tao, niligawan ko si Baring (Jun) saka may kinuha kaming mga anchors from Cebu. Instead na kukuha ako ng bago nakita kong iti-train ko pa, so kailangan ko talaga ng malakas na hahatak sa public affairs program namin, kasi kung magti- training pako baka di ko na mahabol yung goal ko."

On the other hand, Super Radyo also beefs up their community programs by organizing medical mission targeting the far flung areas of the region.

"Sa GMA una ang puso, karon lang tuiga twice miadto ang GMA Super Radyo sa Compostela, 500 ka bata ang gituli. Sa Monkayo, thousands sab ang naka-avail sa medical. Kapoy siya pero fulfilling sa among part kay nakatabang mi satao, siguro reward nalang ni among pagka no.1," Digamon said.

The radio station took time to visit government offices, barangay and places who asked for their help.

"Gipanindigan gyud namo ang tinuod nga serbisyo. Visible mi sa area, naa mi barangayan, naga-adto among reporters pangutan-on unsa ang ilang problema, after makabalo mi sa ilang probelama ginapatubag namo ang barangay officials," he added.

Jun Baring, one of their anchors, is confident to keep the lead amid the rise of new radio stations here.

"Kung di maganda ang programming mo wala ng makikinig sayo. Kung di maganda ang issue walang makikinig sayo, lousy ang announcers walang makikinig. As part of social responsibility, we come up with good programming, kailangan mag study. Unsa na isyu ang i-tackle sa programa dapat ma-involve ang tao, kung satisfied ang listener mo di na yan lilipat."

To further toughen their operation, Delfin happily shared that months from now their new transmitter will arrive.

"Ang signal namo di pa ana ka full blast. We are still working for a new transmitter, according sa chief tech namo on travel na daw for the 30K na siya, right now nasa 10K kami na signal. Within the year to siya."

On the other hand, the top three radio personalities of Super Radyo Davao are not affected with the issue that they manipulated the result of the survey to their favor.

They admitted that many questioned the result, but for them what's important is they know more where they stand.

"I don't know why naay ingon ana nga isyu, we know the truth, nagtrabho kami, pinagtrabahuan naming yan. Yung mga ganung issue not a big deal para sa amoa," Delfin ended.
