Exciting destination to learn and have fun


THERE are not too many places in Metro Manila where you could take your kids to have fun and learn as well. This is why the Nido Fortified Science Discovery Center at the SM Mall of Asia is such a good, albeit rare, find.

What distinguishes this science theme park from other family-friendly destinations is that its many attractions are exciting and educational for kids and adults alike.

Children and their parents will have fun, for example, when they go over to the Grossology station where they can touch mock body parts and place them in their correct locations inside the body.

"My husband and two sons enjoyed putting all those mock body parts in their proper places. It was a fun activity for them as they also got learn about the different body parts," said Christine Santos, who enjoyed a discount off her entrance ticket, thanks to Nido Fortified.

She said it was a co-parent from her eight-year-old son's school who informed him about the promo.

"I have always been looking for a place where we can spend some quality time with the kids, so when another parent mentioned the place, I took my husband and kids there one Saturday. It’s a good thing that our family drinks Nido Fortified as well so we enjoyed a discount on our entrance ticket," Christine said.

Likewise located at the first level is a game station wherein family members will have fun outwitting each other about the different bodily functions. Then there's the Transportation Station wherein visitors are given a free hand in designing and building their own virtual cars and landing planes through flight stimulators.

All throughout this station, videos as well as car models are likewise on display so you'd be learning about the history of transportation as well. The intricately-designed Gravitram, meanwhile, explains the concept of Gravity.

The highlight of the first level, though, is the DigiStar Planetarium, which looks like a giant space center from the outside.

"I read about one of the movies being shown there and I knew that my daughter will enjoy watching it inside that venue," said Elena Sarmiento, who said she and her daughter had visited the Nido Fortified Science Discovery Center twice already.

Her daughter, Kirstin, couldn't agree more. "My mom and I really had fun there. Next time, I want to bring my cousins from abroad there to watch a movie with us," the ten-year-old said.

Film features are shown at the Digistar Planetarium regularly, so make sure to check out the schedule for the day.

If you're a big fan of robots, then make sure to head on to the second level where you will find replicas of the most popular robots in history and film like Astroboy and the robot from the Terminator movies.

Another enjoyable and interesting attraction here is the Time Capsule machine wherein you could send a message to anyone in the future. All you have to do is key in your message and send this message along with the photo that will be taken by the machine to the email address of your preferred receiver along with the preferred date that you would want it received.

The Earthquake Simulation Room, on the other hand, gives visitors a first-hand experience during an earthquake. It likewise shows various tips on what to do during an earthquake situation. The earthquake simulation system, meanwhile, shows the effect of earthquakes on different structures.

Then there's the Virtual Reef, where one could learn more about life underwater courtesy of Mr. T, the talking fish.

So if you're still looking for a place where you could have a different kind of fun and adventure with your kids while at the same time learn more about different Science concepts, be sure to give the Nido Science Discovery Center a visit.
