HE IS the most sought after news source by reporters covering this year's Kadayawan celebration. Kadayawan 2012 spokesperson Orly Escarilla is the man behind all the stories published in city's major newspapers.
Behind his appearances in all press briefing and media updates bringing the freshest feeds about Kadayawan is a family man who strives to change the negative stereotypes that most people have toward public official.
There's really more to Orly than just being seen on newspapers and television.
On top of his job as the official spokesperson for the four official festivals in Davao City, Orly is also the director of the Museo Dabawenyo.
But Orly admitted that this stereotype is not easy to erase in the minds of the public.
He said what the only thing that he can do to at least avoid its negative effect to his function as a public servant is to do all the tasks assigned to him religiously.
“It is really for us to continuously prove to them by efficiently and effectively carrying-out our duties and responsibilities," Orly said.
With his 17 years in the public service, everyday seems to be his first day because of the nature of his job.
“Aside from the regular tasks I am expected to perform, new tasks frequently come his way," he said.
Orly is a father to his two loving boys Luis Angelo, 7 and Joaquin, 2, and a compassionate husband to Analyn, a bank employee.
Orly said when his out from work, he loves staying at home, spending time with his wife and boys and doing household chores just like a typical Filipino father.
"I enjoy watching TV shows especially basketball-related shows as well as documentaries. I also love listening to music, more particularly music of the 80's," he said.
Asked of how he finds his jobs, he said it is challenging especially because I am not really used to speaking in front of our media friends, or speaking in front of other people for that matter.
However, there is also that feeling of satisfaction knowing that in one war or the other, I have imparted information that may be useful for those concerned, and consequently contributing to the success of the undertaking.
Orly said if given the chance and all the resources needed, he sees himself with a business 10 years from now particularly those related to cars and automobiles.
