DEAR Dr. Fritz,

I have been following your column since the day I read it. Now, I guess, it’s my time to throw some questions which have been hounding me. Are there fertility foods? Can food help our fertility chances?

Thank you and hope to hear from you soon. More power and God bless.

Dear Nissin Ramen,

Thank you for the support. It is heartwarming to hear inspiring thoughts like this.

Now, I have some good news for you. For men and women out there -- eating healthily can really help you boost your fertility quotient. It doesn’t matter whether you are going through fertility difficulties like hormonal imbalance, slow production of your eggs, or problems with potency, foods can help you deal with them.

Let’s start with women.

Red meat

They are filled with iron and they can lower the chances of infertility out of the process of ovulation. Moreover, iron can help the dangers of anemia and is a great source of zinc – which can help support ovulation and keep an effective cell division processes.

Nuts

They are high in Vitamin E and thus, can intensify the female sex drive with an added edge of protecting the embryo from miscarriage. So, why not go for almonds and walnuts, dear.

Oysters

They can give a fine source of zinc – which is important for healthy ovulation and continuous egg production. You can also find zinc in eggs, beans and nuts.

Baked potatoes

They are high in vitamin B with reserves of vitamin E. These two vitamins can work together to make cell division a lot efficient and the more chances that healthy ova will be produced.

Now, let’s get on with men.

Fresh fruits

They are high in vitamin C – which can help prevent sperm from crowding. This can improve the potency and quality of sperm. So, munch out daily on kiwis, mangos, strawberries, grapefruits, guavas and a lot more of fruity goodness.

Brazil nuts

They are rich in selenium and thus, can increase the number of active sperms and improve their mobility, too. Selenium can also enhance testosterone and potency.

Garlic

An occasional dose can improve fertility by enhancing one’s circulation.

Oily fish

They have the Essential Fatty Acids (EFAs) which can help enhance blood circulation around the reproductive system and improve quality of the sperm. So, I hope you’ll feast on the likes of salmon, mackerel and sardines.

Chili They can boost the flow of blood to the reproductive zone. So, why not indulge yourself on some spicy foods.

Well, I hope that helps. Good luck!
