SM Foundation, Inc. (SMFI), with the support of SM Lanang Premier, conducted last April 24-25 a medical and dental mission to serve the needy communities.

The two-day event dubbed "Gamot para sa Kapwa" held at the mall's basement parking area provided free medical and dental services to a total of 2,108 Dabawenyos. Beneficiaries were less fortunate families, senior citizens and Philippine war veterans in communities near Lanang such as Agdao, Sasa, R. Castillo, and Ubalde.

The Medical and Dental Mission in SM Lanang Premier was organized as part of the SM Group of Companies’ corporate social responsibility efforts. It mobilized the support of various stakeholders – the government, the private sector, organizations and academic institutions – in serving the community through a unified initiative. Partners for the mission include the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD), Southern Philippines Medical Center (SPMC, formerly called Davao Medical Center), City Health Office, San Pedro College, Metro Davao Medical and Research Center, Philippine Dental Association-Davao City Dental Chapter and PhytoMax.

Free medical and dental consultations, provision of medicines, diagnostic tests and laboratory services such as chest x-ray, ECG, urinalysis, fluoride check, hemoglobin test, dental tooth extraction, and phyto-heart check were provided to the beneficiaries. A lecture demonstration on proper tooth brushing was also rendered and toothbrushes were given free of charge to children.

Doctors, dentists, nurses and medical technologists from partner institutions administered the laboratory tests, medical and dental consultations throughout the event.

Health and medical projects are just one of the four areas of advocacy of the SM Foundation, Inc., the socio-civic arm of the SM Group of Companies. Other advocacies include education through scholarship programs and donations of school buildings to public elementary and high schools, livelihood projects and religious community projects.

SMFI helps the needy in communities within the vicinity of SM Supermalls nationwide.
