GTA, with friends!-A A +A

ONE of the most-anticipated video games of the year, Grand Theft Auto (GTA) V, is less than a month away from release. The game will be released on September 17 in the United States (September 18, here), but Rockstar isn't putting any brakes on the game's hype train. Although much has already been known about the single player campaign, Rockstar finally unveiled the online component last week; Grand Theft Auto Online.
First off, this isn't your typical online mode. While the online modes of games such as Call of Duty, FIFA 13 and Tekken Tag Tournament 2 match you up with people to play matches, GTA Online seeks to translate the franchise's single player open world experience to one that can be enjoyed by many people at the same time.
GTA Online will be set in Los Santos, the same place that GTA V takes place in, which is basically a reimagining of Los Angeles. Just like in the single player game, you're thrust into an open world where you can do whatever you wish, but this time, you can do it with friends.
As seen in the trailer, simply running around town and wreaking havoc is an option, but if you're craving some sense of direction or progress, you can tackle the missions provided. Crews, a multiplayer mechanic which debuted in Max Payne 3, is confirmed to return in GTA Online. Crews, simply put, are teams, whether large, public ones, or small, private ones. As GTA V boasts a three-man lead for the first time ever in the franchise, putting heavy emphasis on teamwork for the game's missions, you can do the same in multiplayer mode, whether it’s communicating with people you meet online or hopping online with your buddies and trying to coordinate perfectly.
Gamers aren't limited to just tackling missions either. Sport activities in the single player game such as golf and racing whether by land, sea or air, are also available for you to enjoy with your friends. If you and your friends enjoy the traditional frag fest, have no fear, as traditional online modes such as deathmatches are confirmed to be included.
Money will play a role in the online mode as well. You can use your hard-earned virtual cash to do small things such as customize your character's appearance or buy guns, or splurge and buy cars, airplanes and even houses that you and your friends can hang out in if you want to take a break from all the action that the online mode offers you.
For the more creative people, user-generated content is confirmed to be featured in GTA Online. You can create your own races or match types to play, and even play custom content created by other players.
While GTA V will let you experience tackling huge missions with allies, GTA Online seeks to allow you to do the same with your friends. While GTA V releases next month, however, GTA Online will not launch until October 1, and access to it is granted to all who own a copy of GTA V.
