Touching lives of Dabawenyos-A A +A
Friday, September 6, 2013
FOR so long a period, true service has been the name of the game for Sun.Star Davao, putting it on a pedestal of success for the delivery of trustworthy news stories while touching the lives of every Juan in all kinds of ways not only in Davao City but in many parts of Mindanao as well.
Built upon a strong credibility, it has become one of the most trusted community newspapers, conferred with so many distinctions from among the respected local and national awarding bodies.
Sun.Star Davao marks its 18th year in the community newspapering tomorrow, September 7, since its birthing back in 1995.
Times have changed since then, but the brand of journalism it carries remains the same, or even surpassed in each passing year as it moves forward to outdoing its slew of already impressive achievements from the past until the most recent ones.
Its contributions to the community where it serves remains insurmountable, especially much vaunted by people whose lives have been touched by Sun.Star Davao, along with another affiliate Sun.Star Davao Superbalita, through the notable and inspiring stories, be they about the ordinary people or the community itself -- perhaps, the reason for remaining unwaveringly on top as the no. one community newspaper over the years.
Basking in glory, however, is not the true gauge of success for people behind Sun.Star Davao, but success only comes when a strong connection between us and the community is established.
True, this excites all of the five departments comprising the Sun.Star Davao's powerhouse -- marketing, G&A, circulation, production, and editorial -- to go great lengths everyday, from gathering news, producing printed copies, to delivering newspapers out on the streets.
But, Davao's leading newspaper aspires more beyond just rendering true service. It wants to contribute to the growth of the community it serves.
To carry out such aspiration, it tries to highlight different sectors that are obscured by other hard-hitting headlines in various dailies, which makes it one of the few media outifts in the mainstream today to do such.
True, by telling their stories, that moves the readers either to act on the dregs of the society or to make a blaring campaign of something noteworthy about the city.
Say, the rise and fall of the prices of the basic commodities, the state of the elementary pupils in the region, the photo of PO1 Jessie Mallari tending to a beggar, or the success of Kadayawan festival amid security threats.
We make sure to cover most, if not all stories of those kinds, and the most important of all, vows to continue, and even improve, the legacy it is best known for.
Sun.Star Davao takes great pride in being a part of the growth of our community through the years.
