Pinoys who shine online (First of two parts)-A A +A
Wednesday, October 23, 2013
JUST like how Lea Salonga and the Madrigal Singers took the international music scene by storm, and other international Filipino artists who shine abroad like famous designer Monique Lhuillier and Executive Chef Cristeta Comerford of White House, some Filipinos, too, shine in the cyberspace.
However, it'll need a long list if I am going to enumerate Filipino blogs, websites, or channels who make it big in the cyberspace. To make things easier and less complicated, let me just tell you who are these Filipino "Youtubers" who make waves online.
Happy Slip (HappySlip)
If you say legendary, Christine Gambito's Happy Slip channel is one of the most successful channels by a Filipino on YouTube. She writes, directs, produces, and acts in all her videos.
In G4's "Who’s who on YouTube," they described her video as "often silly and produced entirely by herself, she has used her character actor and her eccentric Filipino Family as the inspiration of her videos."
She was nominated for 2006 YouTube Video Awards Best Comedy and won 2nd place. She is also one of the first to be accepted in the website's revenue sharing program in May 2006.
Since August 2006, her channel garnered a total of 662,920 subscribers, with 76,947,259 views. Her other channel Christine (christinegambito) has a total of 3,447,544 views and 136,405 subscribers, which offers various tutorials and behind the scene clips from past HappySlip videos. Watch: Facebook Fever! (2,768,879 views), Mixed Nuts (4,698,215 views), and Instant Vlogging (714,086 views)
Mikey Bustos (MikeyBustosVideos)
Dubbim himself as the Ambassador of Filipinos on YouTube, his channel has a total of 102,825 subscribers and 19,084,426 combined video views since September 2006.
Mikey's channel introduces who the Filipino is to the world. After watching his videos, you will find yourself laughing and saying: "Pinoy jud." Just like Christine he also directs, acts, and produces his own videos.
Watch: Opo Pinoy Style (Filipino Oppa Gangnam Style Parody) (2,203,047 views), Filipino Accent Tutorial (1,694,718 views), Traditional Filipino Courting Tutorial (724,088 views)
Petra Mahalimuyak (ashleyslips)
This girl, Ashley Rivera aka Petra Mahalimuyak, is not afraid to show her quirky and funny side while staying pretty. Viewers will enjoy her tutorials, parodies, and cover.
One thing you will remember about her is the way she speaks. Don't get fooled she does that intentionally. Personally, I enjoyed her British accent. Petra knows how to make you smile and you want her to be on your dinner table to just talk. She even made an ad for an instant coffee mix. Since October 2010 her channel has 16,522,309 views and 94,879 subscribers.
Watch: How To Dance In A Club (2,714,368 views), How To Act In A Horror Movie (317,152 views), Beauty Queen Tutorial (236,536 views)
They are top Filipino YouTube stars. You will notice that they do everything in their videos, from directing, editing, acting, writing, to producing. Next week, I will introduce you the amazing Filipino musicians on YouTube. For comments or suggestions e-mail me at: firstname.lastname@example.org.
