ANTONIO "Tony" T. dela Cruz is at the top of his game as the president of the Davao City Chamber of Commerce and Industry Inc. (DCCCII), president and chief executive officer of the Regional Educators Multi-purpose Cooperative, and principal owner of Elijah Security and Investigation Agency.
The list of his success goes on but who would have thought that one of the most respected man in the business community began as a humble security guard in a bank in Zamboanga Sibugay, who slowly and steadily rose to where he is right now.
Coupled with hard work and determination, Tony said one of the secrets of his success is simply praying and putting his faith in God knowing that He has a plan for him.
"The secret to success is prayer. You tell God what you want," he said.
Another ingredient to his success is having a positive outlook in life.
"Do not dwell on the negative but dwell on the positive," Tony said.
He also said learning from failures is also important.
"When you keep looking at your failures nothing will happen.
Let your failures educate and teach you," Tony said.
Patience is also a key to success. He said young businessmen should not rush their way to the top but rather wait for the right time.
For a busy man like Tony, it seems like it will be difficult for him to balance work and family. He said it is all about prioritizing his day to day activities to be able to juggle his time between his family and work.
"When you know your priorities it is not hard to balance life and work," he said.
He said from Mondays to Fridays he works and during weekends, days off, or any free time he sees to it that he spends time with his family.
"When my children were growing up, I saw to it that I bring them to church or spend time with them," Tony said.
He prays regularly as he goes about his daily activities.
"I am stressed and pressured everyday but you need to have a regular conversation with God," he said.
Tony joined DCCCII in 2001 and became a member of the board in 2002. He also served as the DCCCII's executive vice-president for a couple of years until he was elected president this year.
He also serves as a member of the Audit and Inventory Committee of the Cooperative Insurance System of the Philippines, member of the oversight committee of the Davao Credit Surety Fund, and executive vice president of RESA-PADPAO 11.
He is also affiliated with the Full Gospel Businessmen's Fellowship International-Davao Chapter (president), Gideons International in the Philippines - Davao City Camp (lifetime member), Free and Accepted Masons of the Philippines (member), Sowers Toastmasters Club (charter member), Philippine Society for Industrial Security (member), and American Society for Industrial Security (member).
