"EVERY father is an architect of his home life, not one career could beat that." This is how Deodato Tutor Sr. considered how he obtained his success in life as a chef for the Regency Inn Hotel for the past 12 years.
Born on October 15, 1956 in Bohol, Tutor grew up being instilled with the values of love for God, patience, discipline and dedication to work not only for himself but also for his love ones.
It was in 1976 when Tutor got his first job as a dish washer at Davao Famous Restaurant in Davao City. He worked there for nine years before v venturing in Tacurong where he worked as a cook at James Prince Restaurant for four years. He further honed his craft as cook at Peking Restaurant in Tagum City after that, for only one year.
He was OIC chef of Waterfront Insular Hotel for 13 years before he was taken in by Regency Inn. Aside from his stints in restaurant and hotel kitchens, he was also into catering and food delivery, all these he did to provide for his family, his wife and three children.
Tutor is often called Chef Dad. He became an inspiration for his colleagues because of his determination and hard work for his family. Despite all the hardships, Tutor is thankful and proud that his children have all finished college.
"While I'm working, si misis naman in charge sa bahay. As head of the family, a husband, and a dad, you need to strive hard for your family. My greatest achievement is them -- my wife and my children. And I’m very happy na nakapagtapos na nang pag-aaral lahat ng anak ko. Paid off lahat ng pagod ko,” Tutor said.
Tutor's eldest daughter Deborah is already a pastor, his second daughter Maria Cecilia is a teacher at the Holy Child School of Davao, and his youngest son Deodato Jr. has his own business. Two of the three already have a family of their own.
"There is nothing more that me and my wife Cecilia could ask for. Though tapos na sila sa kanilang pag-aaral and tapos na rin ang responsibility ko na pag-aralin sila but my job as their father will always stay the same," Tutor said.
Indeed, a father's blessing precedes his children and guides them all through.
