Most in-demand jobs in the city

Thursday, April 20, 2017

AS DAVAO City's economy continues to grow, this only means more job opportunities for Dabawenyos. With so many jobs available, we would also want to know what are the most in demand jobs in the city.

According to the Public Employment Service Office (Peso) here, jobs in the field of business process outsourcing (BPO) continue to be the most in-demand job in Davao City.

"It reflects the optimism in the continuing growth of the IT-BPM industry in the city. It also means that the stakeholders, particularly the City Government of Davao, must address the demand for talent, such as their training requirements," said lawyer Samuel Matunog, Information and Communication Technology-Davao, Inc. president, in a text message.

He said the graduates in Davao City are more than enough to cater to the demand of the BPO sector but he pointed out that there is still the need to have trainings for the graduates like supplementary English language training, among others.

Philip Nidea, Peso-Davao City supervisory labor and employment officer, said while the demand is high not many are applying for the job vacancies in the BPO sector.

He added one reason why not many apply for some jobs in the BPO sector is probably due to the requirement of being proficient in the English language.

Rounding up the top five most in-demand jobs in Davao City are store and sales associates, skilled workers like carpenters and masons, account and sales executives, and nurses.

“These in-demand jobs reflect the current profile of the city. The retail and services industry is the top industry of Davao City, which means there is really a demand for executives, specialists, and associates in this field. And over the past years, we have seen a boom in the ICT sector and in property development,” said Lemuel Ortonio, Davao City Investment Promotion Center (DCIPC) head.

Rounding up the top 10 most in-demand jobs in Davao City are cashiers, accountants, logistic and warehouse personnel, drivers, and information technology professionals.

Nidea, meanwhile, said the top most in demand jobs overseas include skilled workers, nurses, engineers, household workers, and food service workers.

Recently the Department of Labor and Employment (Dole)-Bureau of Local Employment (BLE) and JobStreet Philippines has also recently released the highest paying jobs in the country.
