BEING a real estate broker is a very challenging career, entailing decision, effort and thorough study. A broker needs to think of the business as her own and not as something she just stumbled into out of nowhere.
For Dr. Malou Monteverde, a realtor, certified international property specialist for the Chamber of Real Estate and Builders (Creba) and national committee chair for the EcoZones Development in the Philippines, a real estate broker must be licensed.
As the real estate industry continues to grow, Monteverde said there is a need to properly professionalize even the mindset of real estate professionals in the country.
"If we talk about the practice in the Philippines, it is okay. But still, may it be national or international, the real estate brokers must know government rules and policies. You need to know the place and its area, and who you are dealing with," she said.
Monteverde said to be part of the real estate industry, one must find the right product for the right buyer, the right price, right compensation and contracts. She added that there are several variables that need to be discussed with their clients or buyers in person as they market and showcase their products.
"This is not a simple selling and delivery. The job of a real estate professional is very challenging and rewarding. They just have to find their niche, manage their time, maintain a database, and look for image that would be their calling," Monteverde said.
She also said that to become a successful real estate broker, one must have to believe that such career in this sector holds huge opportunities for any individual.
Monteverde said a real estate broker should learn the rope of the business.
This year, Monteverde said, there will be new opportunities and they expect real estate to remain optimistic, with various local and foreign investors.
