BROADCAST giant GMA Network, Inc. launched new formats and fresher shows in a bid to thump competition in the local arena this year, as it celebrates its 60th anniversary.

Further strengthening its core strength, the news and public affairs program, particularly in the regions, is the main driver for the network's bid to gain a larger audience share in Southern Mindanao.

Local news show, Testigo, anchored by veteran broadcaster Tek Ocampo, will now be re-launched in its new time slot, moving from 5:30 p.m. to 6 p.m.

Like other local news shows in other regional stations of GMA Network, Testigo will be aired live daily back-to-back with its national news program, 24 Oras.

The move, according to GMA Network News and Public Affairs manager for expansion, Cel Mirror, is part of the network's preparation for the highly contested May 2010 elections, as the regional newscasts continues to evolve, incorporating new technology and engaging its audiences in a more dynamic interface through new media.

"This year will be the start of a stronger GMA TV5 Davao, as we continue to bank on our strongest asset, our news and public affairs program," Mirror said during the trade show of GMA Network Wednesday evening.

Also getting a fresh format is top rating morning show, Una Ka Bai, while documentary show Mindanao Agenda, will have an extended run.

A news flash bulletin report on local news is also part of the new format of the local newscast of GMA TV5-Davao.
