DAVAO City hosted last week the 19th Hog Convention and Trade Exhibits of the National Federation of Hog Farmers, which showcased breakthroughs in boosting the productivity and profitability of hog raisers in the country.
The event was held at the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinasfrom April 8 to 10 and was organized by the Pork Producers Federaion of the Philippines, Inc. (ProPork), and hosted by the Davao Hog Farmers Association, Inc. (DHFAI) with the theme "Ensuring survival through efficiency and improved pork production."
ProPork president Albert Lim Jr. said the event has become an anticipated gathering among the members of the hog industry and its allied services.
"We work hard to make sure that we provide our members and participants the right tools to them further improve their livelihood," he said, adding that all booths and raw spaces were sold.
The last hog convention was held in the city in 1994 or 16 years ago.
DHFAI president Eduardo So then expressed his gratitude that the city was chosen as the convention site.
"We are very happy to host this year's event. Davao City is a great place for the convention and is one of the country’s premier tourist destinations," So said.
"We expect people from all over the country to gain new knowledge and go home feeling great and excited about what they experienced," he said.
Participants were able to receive practical and technical information and tips from experts, aiding them in securing the safety and profitability of their farms amid all the concerns regarding diseases and violate market forces that affect production.
Among the topics during the series of seminars are: prevention and eradicating of common swine diseases, swine management and swine genetics, among others.
Exhibitors showcased their products and services, ranging from innovative equipment and the latest in veterinary products and animal care. There will also be live hog exhibits from the different breeding companies.
The convention also hosted the 3rd Backyard Hog Farmers Congress which focused on the needs of the backyard hog raisers.
"The annual convention and trade exhibits is part of ProPork’s mission to protect and promote the interest of the hog raisers as well as enhance the opportunities for growth, efficiency, equality, and sustainability of the P150-billion hog industry," Lim said.
