ICT Davao: City still lagging in technological advancements

DAVAO City lagged behind in terms of technological advancements.

This was the assessment of ICT Davao vice president Yvonne Cabada in a press conference on Thursday at the opening of the Computer Manufacturers, Distributors, and Dealers Association of the Philippines (Comddap) at the Apo View Hotel in Davao City.

"What we aim to do is turning Davao technologically-savvy," Cabada said, adding that Davao market "still has to be educated on information technology."

The proliferation of Internet cafes in the city, according to Cabada, is a sign that there is still a number who have yet to come out of the box in embracing new technology that allows IT connectivity. But she was quick to add that sales on IT products have been consistently going up.

With the ever-changing advances in information technology, Comddap director Salvador Lastrilla pegged the price depreciation of IT products at 2 to 3 percent annually.

"It goes down by an index of two to three percent," Lastrilla said, adding that the lower prices allow more consumers to purchase the products.

"It's a matter of economics. The higher the demand, production is made more efficient so there is lower prices." (CPM)
