NCCA to stage Sayaw Pinoy here

FILIPINO dancers will put on their dancing shoes and display their form and grace anew this year with the staging of the Sayaw Pinoy, the longest running national and regional dance tour being organized by the National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA).
Sayaw Pinoy 2012, one of the seven flagship projects of this year's Philippine Arts Festival (PAF), is spearheaded by national committee on dance Shirley Halili-Cruz who, along with Marichu Tellano, announced the staging of the event during the weekly Club 888 media forum at the Marco Polo Hotel Davao Wednesday.

The annual event showcases the colorful tradition of dances and movements in the country and aims to teach the grassroots level to discover new talents as well as to connect to more Filipino dance artists.
Halili-Cruz said the Sayaw Pinoy will have Feb. 3 and 4 as its Davao City stops. The first day will be held at the Philippine Nikkie-Jin Kai International School while on the second day the event will be at the SM-City Davao and Abreeza Mall.
"Sayaw Pinoy has provided a venue for interaction and collaboration among the different dance troupes and companies, both professional and upcoming groups all over the country," Halili-Cruz said in a statement.
The dance tour brings together different dance forms such as classical ballet, folk dance, contemporary and modern dance as the country's top companies perform with the local dance troupes of host cities and municipalities. For this year's celebration, performances will be held in various venues in Luzon, Visayas, Mindanao at the National Capital Region (NCR).
PAF is held every February in celebration of the National Arts Month in pursuant to Presidential Proclamation No. 683 signed in 1991.
For this year's celebration, NCCA has taken the theme "Tradisyon at Inobasyon" which aims to further advance local creativity in the arts. Eminent local and foreign artists will take part in this biggest and grandest month-long cultural gathering.
