I WAS listening to one of the Christian stations sometime ago. The lady on board at that time was talking about something and frankly I was really not listening. I tune in to that station because of the songs they play primarily. (That was where I discovered Laura Story; she has two beautiful songs namely, Blessings and Grace.)

Anyway, while I was waiting for the songs, the lady said something interesting. She mentioned that in the Bible, there was no account of what Noah did while he was in the ark. That sort of intrigued me because this was the first time I came across that truth.

We all know he built the ark and he gathered his family and pairs of animals and they went to the ark. The flood happened and then the next thing we know, the floods receded and Noah and his family and of course the animals came out. That was it.

But what is not said is, what did Noah do and what did Noah think while he was inside the ark and the rains lashed and the floodwaters swept all life. What was he thinking while they were tossing and turning.

What would you think of you were Noah? What would you feel if you were Noah? What would I think and feel?

Well first thing is would be a certain sense of relief. For two reasons.

It is no joke to build an ark, At that time, technology was limited to wood and primitive tools. And you had to build this huge ark with only your family to help you. That was no easy task to say the least. You had to hammer and saw and lash and lash and saw and hammer day after day and perhaps even night after every night.

If the physical aspect was not enough then remember you had to contend with the sneering and the jeering of people who thought you had gone insane. It was difficult enough to work; it became even more difficult when people ridiculed you at every step.

But when you were at the ark and everything the Lord told you came true, you had to have a sense of relief because you trusted in the Lord.

Relief and then perhaps I would feel anxiety as in what now? So okay I believed in you and my family and I are safe in this ark, what now? What happens to us now? When you think about it the ark experience was not a pleasant one. You were trapped and had no place to go. There was a maelstrom outside, something the world had never seen. Something you had never experienced. It was probably a rough ride and the ark swayed and rocked with the swirling waters.

Perhaps there was darkness outside, the sky devoid of all sunlight. And you were helpless. So what could you do? Well you could trust the voice, the Being that that put you in that situation or you could go mad. I guess Noah trusted because after the ordeal, he came out sane. He trusted in the Lord which is a pretty difficult thing to do.

We all have our arks, we all have our storms and sometimes when our lives are rocked and swayed and torn asunder we only have God. It is difficult to build our "arks." What is it that the Lord is asking you to build? What is your "ark?"

Are you being sneered and laughed at because of what the Lord is asking of you? Are you being asked to go the difficult path? Are you being told to choose something which is not popular and therefore hard? Are you being ordered to do the impossible whatever that may be. What is your ark.?

And that is not the end. You still have to endure the journey, the path and the only thing that you can hold on to is the promise of God, the word of God that the rains will stop, the floods will recede and in the midst of the darkness and the doubts, the sun will rise once more. Life will come again. Life will bloom once more. It shall renew itself as He had promised.

It is not easy to stay in the ark. But not impossible. It is not easy to have faith, but it is not impossible.

Noah knew.
