IT WAS a festive atmosphere at the Philippine Science High School - Southern Mindanao Campus (PSHS-SMC) as it marked its 24th founding anniversary.
Themed "Soar High", the two-day event on July 5-6 featured activities participated by the whole Pisay Davao community led by PSHS-SMC director Delia C. Legaspino.
Aside from the admin and support staff, faculty and students, parents were also in full force to commemorate an important event.
Almost 400 hundred Pisay Davao scholars took part in the merriment of Nutri-Fair and fun booths during the first day.
The next day witnessed an Inter-Faith Mass, "Family Fun Time" of parlor games, and a showcase of stage/musical talents by Pisay Davao students.
Everyone shared in the buffet lunch prepared by the Parents and Teachers Association.
The battle of stage performances by year level featured popular Broadway musicals, namely: "Mama Mia" (4th year); "Cats" (3rd year); "The Sound of Music" (2nd year); and "Hair Spray" (Grade 7).
The Juniors' feline performers emerged as the overall winner with the Seniors on the 2nd place, the Freshies’ bagging the 3rd place while the Sophomores on the 4th spot.
What a way to celebrate its 24th year on a high note! Now, who says Pisay is synonymous with being nerd?
The PSHS System, an attached agency of the Department of Science and Technology (Dost), was created in 1963 for the purpose of giving an education highly enriched in science and mathematics to exceptionally gifted Filipino children.
The vision was realized in 1964 in a small rented GSIS-owned property along the Quezon Memorial Circle. In 1970, PSHS started building on a 75,000 square meter lot along Agham Road in Diliman, Quezon City. Now, PSHS has grown into 10 campuses in different locations in the Philippines.
The PSHS-SMC is its first regional campus that was founded on July 8, 1988.
Starting at the Philippine Coconut Authority grounds in Bago Oshiro, Mintal, Davao City with a limited number of classrooms and a handful of scholars who sat on the floor for a few months, the campus now sits on a larger school area in Sto. Nino, Tugbok, Davao City with a new infrastructure.
It has produced thousands of graduates who are now excelling in various fields in science and technology.
