Doña Pilar Learning Center marks 25th year

THE first time I was invited to grace the anniversary celebration of the Doña Pilar Learning Center Foundation, Inc. was two years ago.
How time flies indeed as one of the most reputable learning schools in Davao City celebrated its 25th Foundation Day last October 18.
The special day started with a Thanksgiving Mass at the Fundacion Madrileña covered court of the DPLC Campus located in Doña Pilar Village, Sasa, Davao City.
The rest of the day saw the students enjoying the DPLC Silver Fair and Bazaar and sportsfest until October 19.
The next day saw the DPLC Tribute to teachers and the DPLC-Parent Teachers Association fun run last October 20.
The activities last Saturday included the coronation rites of the Masters and Miss DPLC 2012.
On October 21, a Grand Silver Jubilee Festival with field demonstration contest was held followed by the alumni gathering. Night time was party time with the DPLC-PTA Night and Concert Night.
Based on my previous article published in the same section two years ago, the school was founded by Dr. Julian P. Rodriguez Jr. in 1988 under sole proprietorship. He turned it into foundation, the Doña Pilar Learning Center Foundation Inc., (DPLCFI) in 1990.
It started with nursery, kindergarten and Grade 1 course with only 107 pupils. Each school-year, the school added a new grade level until it completed the elementary grades in 1993-1994 with 491 pupils.
Now on its 25th year, it is offering complete preschool and grades 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6.
As of school year 2010, the school population has already reached 871.
The Doña Pilar Learning Center is primarily intended to serve the school children of Sasa-Pampanga and nearby areas by providing them quality education at a lowest cost possible, the manual says.
It is committed to the preservation of Filipino ideals and Christian principles and aims to develop the child's spiritual, moral, physical, social, economic and aesthetic personality.
Doña Pilar Learning Center is located at Doña Pilar Village, Sasa, Davao City with telephone numbers 234-3320 and email address at dlpcfi@pldtsl.net.
