Sharing the Joy

CHRISTMAS is really for kids. And the best way to celebrate it is to share the joy and the true spirit of the Yuletide season to children, especially those who have less in life.
This was basically the objective of these civic-minded ladies, all members of JCI Davaoena "Daba-Daba", Inc. when they launched the project, dubbed as "Share A Joy", a feeding and gift-giving activity fo children of poor families in their adopted barangay Wilfredo Aquino in Agdao, Davao City.
On December 8, last year, the group, led by their president Verna Solon, trooped to the barangay hall with Jolibee food products and gifts on hand, and gathered some 100 kids who benefitted from the project.
"We gathered 10 kids, aged 4- to 9-years-old, of poor families from each of the barangay's 10 puroks as beneficiaries of the project," Solon said.
"Through the project, we let them experienced the true spirit and joy of Christmas," she added.
As they feasted on Chicken joy, spaghetti, hamburgers and other Jollibee products, Jollibee mascots danced and cracked jokes to the delight of the kids. They were also given a chance to interact with the food chain's mascots.
"It's really fulfilling to see the smile on their faces. And some of these kids had met Jollibee (mascot) for the first time," Solon said.
The kids also received gifts from the group.
The activity was graced by barangay captain Leo Aquino.
Solon said the activity is part of their thrust for 2013, under her leadership, dubbed as Save the Date (Discipline and Transformation for the Environment) & Community.
In line with this, the group has lined up various projects that will benefit the communities in their adopted barangay, including medical mission, livelihood programs and other initiatives for the protection and preservation of the environment.
"All these projects this year are focused in barangay Wilfredo Aquino, our adopted barangay," Solon said.
