Useful online tools-A A +A
Wednesday, October 2, 2013
IT'S finally October. This is the month that most of the students look forward to because of the semestral break.
Since it is too early for Halloween pranks, I have gathered some useful websites that may be helpful for students.
Though its reliability is being questioned by some, the website has proven useful. Despite its articles being prone to editing, the good thing about it, are sources and footnotes. I have used the online library or encyclopedia multiple times in research. The articles are updated.
On top of that, it helps you cut short your search time. This is also a good place to go if you do not know where to start in the school library. Aside from using it for academic, I have also used this to keep updated with the latest series of episodes.
English, being one of the most common medium of instruction in different institutions, it is important we understand its rules.
Grammarist offers tips and proper usage of idioms, parts of speech, and punctuation, to name a few.
This website is clever enough to put everything in a four volume grammar book into one website. This website will help develop and understand English language. So if you are confused with "aide and aid" or "effect and affect" or you want to know what the idiom 'batten the hatches' or ‘sleight of hand' mean, this is the website to go to.
Online dictionaries and Encyclopedia
Student or not, once in a while we encounter foreign words when we read books, words like "ecotage" or "betwixt". The first thing we run to, is the dictionary. Oxford and Merriam-Webster have entered the digital age with its online dictionary. Features like word-of-the-day, grammar, language resources, and new words are very much present in both.
Other useful online dictionaries are Urban and Encyclopedia Britannica. These are not only useful for students but also for those working. Next week, I'll introduce you guys some pranks you can do this Halloween during your semestral break.
